Smart glasses are quickly transforming our lives, both professionally and personally. They can offer new ways to maintain complex systems or enable retail experiences that were previously unattainable. Sensing, projection, and actuation turn human input and the physical environment into responsive experiences. Visit the TDK booth to learn how the company helps to reinvent smart personal devices.

“‘In Everything, Better’ means that TDK offers both components, modules, and systems for the connected world. We do so much more than merely providing passive components. Our sensor solutions are the eyes and ears of the connected devices. With this, we are providing a complete solution for AI-connected devices, including smart glasses.”

ICT device highlights

Meta-optic mirror for smart glasses

TDK’s award-winning meta-optic mirror uses a precisely engineered nanostructure to enable an ultra-thin optical system for stylish, lightweight smart glasses. During the demonstration, images are projected directly onto the retina through a 150 nm-thin mirror embedded in an eyeglass lens, delivering a clear, focus-free AR experience without visible rainbow artifacts. Such a meta-optic mirror eliminates the need for a conventional larger curved mirror.

Tactile zoom for smart glasses

Imagine adjusting the camera zoom of smart glasses and feeling the zoom levels through instant crisp tactile cues, rather than relying solely on vision. The Haptic Slider Zoom demo uses TDK’s piezo technology to create crisp, highly responsive haptic feedback in a compact form factor. The result is a natural and interactive user experience; a great example of how advanced haptics can make future smart glasses smarter, safer, and more fun to use.

Sensors in smart glasses

TDK MEMS sensors and software are the critical bridge between Physical AI and the real world. MEMS and TMR sensing technologies, together with advanced sensor fusion software, enable precise motion tracking, orientation, and immersive user experiences in next-generation wearables.

With tactile feedback, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) becomes more immersive by addressing other sensory experiences. TDK’s multilayer piezo ceramic PowerHap actuators can render surface textures crisply, as demonstrated impressively by WEART’s TouchDIVER glove.

MEMS microphones for wearables

In wearable devices where audio is the main interface for artificial intelligence – like AI pins or AI glasses – TDK MEMS microphones provide the high sound fidelity and noise suppression algorithms required to enable Audio AI applications, including a unique Acoustic Activity Detect feature that allows AI processors to operate at ultra-low power.
